DESCRIPTION:Experience a day on the lake with a high-energy day of fishing\, fresh mountain air and friendly competition on the water as The Lake Gregory Company hosts its second annual trout derby on Saturday\, April 18\, from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with first\, second and third place prizes of $1\,000\, $500 and $250 for top winners of all ages. \nFor the derby\, the lake will be stocked with 1\,700 pounds of trout\, including rainbow trout\, lightning trout\, plus 300 pounds of trophy-size fish. \nThis community event is open to all ages and a state fishing license is required for ages over 16. The derby will be held rain or shine and no refund will be issued. \nRegister for the derby online at lakegregory.com/fishing before 9 p.m. on Friday\, April 17. The entry fee is $39.10 per person. \nIs there a special prize category for kids?\nYES\, a special Kids’ Division with prizes for participants ages 15 and under will be offered for this group. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. \n\n\n \n\n\nREGISTER CLOSED\n\n\n\n\n\nThe annual event has grown in participation and impact each year\, offering children hands-on fishing experiences — from identifying different fish species and selecting bait\, to casting lines and learning how to clean and prepare their catch.\n\n\n \n\n\nCheck-in begins at 8 a.m. Vendors will be on-site and free popcorn will be available while supplies last. Every participant will receive a free t-shirt. Please provide shirt size(s) when registering.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe event will also provide free continental breakfast and lunch for participants and their parents or guardians. Winners will be announced at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the Regional Parks weigh-in station area. \nREGISTRATION \nTo pre-pay vehicle and derby fees\, visit the reservation website. \nTrout is stocked weekly on Thursdays with 830 pounds of trout. For the derby\, 1\,660 lbs. of trout\, including lightning trout\, will be stocked on Friday\, March 6. The lakes will be closed to public fishing on Friday\, March 6\, and will reopen to the public after the derby ends. \nTRAFFIC LANE CLOSURE \nTo help mitigate the flow of traffic into the park\, the left-hand lane at the intersection of Yates and Park roads to enter the park traveling eastbound will be closed. Access into the park will be from the westbound direction only allowing a right-turn into the park. Lane closure signs will be posted along the road.
