The second annual California Days was a big hit with families, campers and most of all, kids. With attendance topping off at more than 4,000 over the two-day event, February 18-19, the attraction for many was to experience the taste of the Old West with activities that combined early California history with family-friendly old-fashioned fun.
Regional Parks Recreation Coordinator Karen Stevenson said, “The weekend was fun for all ages and the weather could have not been better.”
“This has turned into an event where locals and visitors can come together and step back in time, whether it was learning about the Pony Express or what school was like in the late 1800s, all I saw were faces smiling all through town, especially during the egg toss and the doggie scavenger hunt,” said Stevenson. “The re-enactors really made everyone’s day with skits and photo opportunities for, especially at the telegraph office.”
With so much going on during the entire weekend, Regional Parks Director Beahta Davis said, “It was wonderful to see all of the families participating in activities , riding ponies, and learning about how mining has changed from the 1800’s to today. ”
Regional Parks would like to thank all the event sponsors, Apollo Silver Corp., CalPortland, Equinox Gold Castle Mountain Mine, Mitsubishi Cement Corporation and Barstow food franchise, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers for participating in the event. The sponsor booths were a big hit among eventgoers, learning more about the mining industry and having some fun at the Cane’s booth with giveaways.
