Science Day Camp

Established by the Department of Regional Parks, Environmental Science Camp is a six-hour program rooted in the study of ecology and cultural history. Specially designed for forth and fifth graders, the program aims to stimulate the students interest in environmental science and in the applications of scientific principles and techniques.

The program opened it’s doors to all San Bernardino County elementary schools in October 2006 for 4th and 5th graders to explore. Since its inception, more than 58,000 students have participated in learning experiences designed to help them understand science.

During their day at the park, students participate in activities that reinforce standards from Language Arts, History-Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. Students are taught about rocks, animals, plants, and the environment, and they also were able to study the history of local Native American tribes.

Teachers and parents have raved about the program’s inventiveness, beautiful location at Yucaipa Regional Park and its ability to encourage children and their families to enjoy the outdoors.

Strong emphasis is placed on hands-on activities to help students clearly understand the environment, as well as develop their skills, attitudes and knowledge on the subject.
