Participating Parks

San Bernardino County Regional Parks offers month-long fishing derbies twice a year at Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen and Mojave Narrows Regional Parks.

This event is a skilled competition open to the general public and anglers of all ages. Enter daily for a chance to win cash prizes.

A vehicle day-pass, Fishing license, day fishing permit and derby entry permit are required.

Derby Fee

  • Derby Entry: $5 (plus park fishing permit & park entrance fee, paid at the gate)

Park fishing permits are available at the park entrance gate

  • Monday-Wednesday Daily Fishing Permit: $10.00/person, all ages. 
  • Thursday – Sunday Daily Fishing Permit: $12.00/person, all ages.

Park Entrance Fee (per vehicle)

  • Monday-Friday: $8
  • Saturday & Sunday: $10

Derby Stocking Dates & Poundage
Note: All participating park lakes are closed on stocking days.

  • March 7: Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen & Mojave Narrows: 1,288 lbs. trout at each park (double-stock)
  • March 14, 2024: Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen & Mojave Narrows: 644 lbs. trout at each park
  • March 21, 2024: Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen & Mojave Narrows: 644 lbs. trout at each park
  • March 28, 2024: Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen & Mojave Narrows: 644 lbs. trout at each park

State Fishing License Required

In order to fish at one of our parks the California Department of Fish & Wildlife requires all a state fishing license for ages 16 and over.

The California Department of Fish & Wildlife offers two license-free fishing days every year. This means no license is needed on these days, however, Regional Parks still requires a fishing permit that can be purchased at the park entrance.

Derby Rules & Regulations

The trout derby is a skilled event that runs March 1, 2024 through March 31, 2024 at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park, Glen Helen Regional Park and Mojave Narrows Regional Park.

This event is a skilled competition open to the general public and anglers of all ages. A vehicle day-pass, Day Fishing Permit and Derby Entry Permit are required.

Derby Entry Permit must be purchased upon arrival and prior to the start of fishing. No exceptions.

Park gates open at 7:30 a.m. Derby hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

State and County Fishing Regulations apply (except second pole stamp).

State Fishing License is required (16 years and older). Fishing License and valid photo ID must be presented at time of Derby Entry Permit purchase. Fishing License must be in participants possession at all times.

  • Trout caught will not qualify for derby prizes if the participant’ s Derby Entry Permit and photo ID do not match. Shoreline fishing only. No boats or float tubes will be allowed.
  • Anglers must fish with ONE (1) closely attended fishing rod. No hand lines. No netting. Catch and release is not allowed. Snagging of fish is prohibited and will not qualify for prizes.
  • Trout must be brought to the park gatehouse before 2 p.m. to be weighed and logged on same day your Derby Entry Permit is valid for. All catfish must be freshly caught, fresh in appearance, intact and not overly stiff.
  • Derby winners will be announced Friday, April 12, 2024, via San Bernardino County Regional Parks social media outlets.
  • Winners will also be contacted. Prizes must be picked up from Regional Parks Administration Office, 268 W. Hospitality Lane, San Bernardino, CA 92408 within thirty (30) days of contact.
  • Winner must present DERBY Entry Permit, valid CA State Fishing License, and photo ID to claim prize. Prizes not picked up within thirty (30) days will be forfeited.

Derby Prizes

  • One (1) Prize awarded for “Overall Heaviest Trout” caught – $1,000. (Winner of “Overall Heaviest Trout” will not qualify for ‘Heaviest Trout Caught at each Park Location”).
  • Three (3) First Place prizes awarded for “Heaviest Trout Caught at each Park Location” – $500 ea.
  • Three (3) Second Place prizes awarded for “Second Heaviest Trout Caught at each Park Location” – $300 ea.
  • Three (3) Third Place prizes awarded for “Third Heaviest Trout Caught at each Park Location” – $100 ea.
  • Trout will be registered by heaviest weight and earliest date and time.
  • Anglers and/or persons shall not violate any fishing rules, local, state or federal laws in or about event site. Violators will be disqualified from competition. Derby Entry Permit will be revoked. Violators will be asked to immediately leave the park with no refund of fees paid.
  • Employees and immediate family members of San Bernardino County Regional Parks are not eligible. NO REFUNDS. Held rain or shine.
  • By participating in this event, you are assuming risk of injury, waving damages, and releasing from liability and holding harmless the County of San Bernardino, the Regional Parks Department, and all Officers, Agents, Volunteers and Employees. By participating in this event you are also granting all rights for photography and television coverage or taping of this event for publicity, advertising or other use.
